Beginners fiddle lesson videos
These beginner fiddle lessons will take you slowly through a tune so that you can learn it by ear. I’ll play the tune bar by bar (or ‘measure by measure’), so that you can copy. I’ll play each part many times so that you get a chance to practice. For example, in the lesson below I take you through the Irish jig Out on the Ocean.
(If you are a more confident experienced player, you may find these a little slow – try some of the more advanced lessons).
Once you have mastered this jig, try learning the polka The Britches Full of Stitches!
Intermediate fiddle lessons
For more advanced players, I will play the whole tune through at a moderate tempo so that you can try to work it out for yourself. I will be recording more free fiddle lessons for intermediate players soon, so please check back there for more soon.
I’ve also recorded some short videos of my top tips and tricks for learning ornamentation, best ways to practice certain techniques, some useful exercises for bowing, phrasing, tuning and emphasis and so on.
